If if ai worked great many people just don't want it.
Not sure the degree to which that is true but if so then their AI not working well yet would be a non-problem. I don't mind if a feature I don't use doesn't work well. But I think the truth is that if/when AI truly comes into prime time then it will slowly sneak into people's daily lives. The trick for users is to not TRY to use AI but also not try to avoid it. Just wait for situations where you say "gee, I wish there was an easier way to do xxxx" and then ask (a hopefully evolved) Siri if it can help.

It is purely because we do not have nuerolink / an ability to interact faster than our typing. It is not that AI tools aren’t helpful. It is purely the friction to translate your ideas and get AI to do what you want it to do. That is why it is underwhelming.

Apple has always floundered when it comes to AI. I’m surprised they think they can seriously compete in this space with how far behind they are.

I would rather Apple abandon their AI initiatives and make it so others can integrate models into iDevices. I.e. allow OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic to completely replace Siri.

I don’t need Apple to be good at AI for me to enjoy their hardware and software. Let the pros handle that.

And a supply chain guy totally knows all this and isn't blowing smoke to try and maintain relevance.

Apparently those auto-reply options in Messages...Which I'm surprised it took Apple this long to implement since they've been in Teams, Google Messages for years.

That is the legit on feature I can say is good.

So good!

And let's be honest about ALL their services ... are any of them really that amazing or "the best in a class"?

All of this sort of stuff has always been outside the core competencies of Apple

False! The era of Apple Intelligence is here! Remember, Kuo, Apple skates to where the puck will be, not where the puck is. So, Apple doesn't seek to be the first, but to be the best. If products aren't ready to delight customers, Apple won't release them. The groundwork is laid for best-in-class Apple Intelligence and Apple is pulling-back to ensure Apple Intelligence truly is a game-changing product. And one more thing.... Secrecy is the most important value at Apple and we know Apple always has a trick or two up their sleeve. So, stay tuned for what the ALL NEW Apple Intelligence has to offer. It will change everything, all over again, and Apple can't wait to see the incredible things customers can do with it. Apple thinks you're gonna love it.

Apple was caught with their pants down when the AI wave hit. They didn't have anything in store and the stock price started slipping so they rushed this "Apple Intelligence" to prop it back up for a while.

The funniest thing about this entire saga is that literally the best Apple Intelligence feature was introduced completely silently, and not even as an Apple Intelligence feature.
That being natural language search in music, TV, podcasts, the App Store and Photos.
Apple bringing that systemwide would be a bigger update than any of the stuff they have introduced as Apple Intelligence this far.

I love notification summaries - it's great you can turn them off "app by app". For example, summarizing notifications from our security system is pointless. But summarizing a noisy text chain is useful.
I personally think this "furore" is generated by analysts tried to grab headlines and a small minority of noisy users and the tech press plus the usual apple haters.
Siri works perfectly fine for the great majority of people who use Siri to dictate and read text messages or tell HomeKit to turn on and off lights. I think the dictation is actually amazingly good these days. For the few that want to ask about football team statistics, maybe it's not so good.

Apple has a history of not advertising features that differentiate their products. 3D Touch is probably the single best example of this. Removed due to lack of use. Lack of use due to nonexistent marketing.

Are AI features pushing Android sales either? IMO a few things are happening at once:

AI has hardly any truly compelling use cases for consumers, they’re at best moderately useful (I don’t need AI to write replies to texts etc). Hence consumers are sceptical about it, whilst also being worried it’s gonna come for their job and make them worse off.

AI aside there has been a slow down of innovations in consumer tech over the last 5+ years, certainly compare to the 5/10 years prior to that (hence big tech jumping on the AI hype train so hard). It’s getting increasingly hard to justify upgrading your handset every 2 years.

Meanwhile Big Tech have lost their sheen, people are losing trust that technology is going to make their lives better. This is in large part due to ******tification, but the AI scepticism will be feeding into it to.

Feels like we badly need some exciting new companies and products to shake things up. When was the last time you saw someone with a new device and thought ‘I need to get one of those’?
