So the benefit is a slightly thinner device... for a lot less convenience?
As someone who travels a lot on planes, the trade off seems bad for the sake of a slightly thinner device. I'd have to specifically bring a proprietary MagSafe puck everywhere and hope there's a USB-C port with enough wattage to use it and enjoy slower charging for the privilege? (do people use MagSafe "on the go"? I've never seen it)
Much like when Apple was obsessed with making MacBook Pros so thin that we ended up with faulty butterfly keyboards, I think there's a point at which there are too many trade offs for thinness in phones. The iPhone 6 design style was already thin enough and it seems it'd still be thick enough to have a USB-C port. Similarly the iPad Pro is plenty thin enough and it still has a USB-C port... just make a phone that thin!
