Does anyone know if it's possible to safely and robustly store the Photos Library file in the "Pictures" folder on iCloud and then open it from any Mac, one device at a time? I'd like to see if anyone knows if this is a robust option or not before I try it.

I am most definitely NOT interested in enabling iCloud sharing/access of my Photos Library app in the "typical" fashion, where photos are accessible via any device. That's just not been very robust for me in the past, and even if I unselect it on my iPhone, all the photos still appear and it's just too aggrivating to deal with anymore. So the Photos are set to "off" in iCloud for all devices.

I tried copying the Photos Library to Dropbox and also the base folder in iCloud but it's not been possible to copy the Photos Library file/folder to these locations. But it does seem possible to move/copy the Photos Library to the Pictures folder in iCloud.

Has anyone tried this (or do this now)?

Thanks.

(IMHO) It is technical possible but complicated... it’s better to copy the pictures to Dropbox and enable a shared folder for that and give other access in that way....

iCloud is for the you/user and really should not be shared with others...

Thanks. I’d not share anything with anyone. This is just for me. And I haven’t been able to copy the Photos Library to Dropbox.

If it’s only for you and you use on all devises the same username/iCloud account then you should see on each device the same iCloud content... (including the pictures folder)
Got several devices and on each device I can access all the folders in iCloud... (have like that an identical “backup”)

Have you tried creating new library and testing it under there with few sample photos? If it did work, I’d be worried about corruption of the library over time if multiple computers are accessing i.e a desktop and laptop.

Why hasn’t iCloud Photos worked for you? I’ve personally switched it off myself due to advance data protection being cancelled in the UK.. i now just manager everything manually which feels secure but is a pain.

I'm not clear on what you're trying to do here.
You want to be able to share your entire Photos library with any Mac without using iCloud?
