Apple today announced updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and an updated Mac mini, with faster and more efficient performance thanks to new M2 chips. All new Macs announced today are available for pre-order on Apple's online store starting today, with shipments arriving on Tuesday, January 24.

The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros come with the all-new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which offer improved performance and battery life over their predecessors for workflows such as video editing and graphic design.

Apple today also updated its Mac mini with the M2 and all-new M2 Pro chips. The updated Mac mini has the same design as the previous generation, but comes with faster performance and additional Thunderbolt ports for models configured with the higher-end M2 Pro processor.

The new Mac mini starts at a lower price of $599, while the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro start at $1,999 and $2,499, respectively.

The Mac Studio appears to be a better deal than the M2 Pro Mac Mini when you bump up the RAM to 32GB. Also you get 10Gb/second Ethernet included. The only downsize to the M1 Mac Studio is the older HDMI 2.0 port instead of the newer HDMI 2.1 port on the M2 Pro and higher models, and it only has 10 CPU cores on the M1 Max Mac Studio.

So how long will M1Pro models (particularly 1tb ram models) be out there to buy? And when do we expect to see prices on them fall in response to the release of the M2Pros? I’m upgrading from an ancient 2012 15” Retina and would like to get the best deal I can on an M1Pro 16” 1tb.

Will it be much better/faster than the M1 14,I just bought on this past Weeknd! wondering If I should just keep it or return it for the new M2?

It's a steal alright... by Apple after you upgrade the memory from 8GB to 16GB at a cost of $200 or an additional $400 if you want to max it out at 24GB
Yep. There’s nothing of value with the Mac mini. It’s embarrassing to buy a laptop which has a battery and display - for $500 without 16GB RAM or 512GB SSD. But here we are with Apple…

What happened to all the MacBook Pros delayed again rumors? No one listens to Tim when he says one cannot draw inferences about the supply chain from a limited supplier sample. This proves him right once again, though analysts will likely be unaffected.

Contrary to the excellent advice to buy the M1 Studio instead of the M2 Mac Mini, I splurged for the M2, 32gb Ram, 1TB hard drive. I'll have that computer for 7 years. So excited to repurpose my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)!

what size are you getting?

Here's what I'm getting:
Mac mini
With the following configuration:
Apple M2 Pro with 10‑core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
32GB unified memory
1TB SSD storage
Gigabit Ethernet
Four Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, two USB‑A ports, headphone jack
Accessory Kit

Not sure if that answers the question...?

Why 32gb for an otherwise modest config? Unless you have a specific need for it, which pretty much dovetails with the need for the Max chips (ie. 3d modeling/video processing/machine learning) it's a waste due to how freakishly fast the bus and SSD are for swapping. This is different than the Intel Macs in this regard, plenty of benchmarks proving this out. Wouldn't recommend 8gb, but 16 gb should be able to get you through 7 years fine if the base chip can.

Macbook pro is so junky and heavy. It’s like the 2013 macbook. Back to future or back to the past? Lol. Would consider buying it when it is as slim as the last intel macbook pro.
Found these for you 💪. See if they help.

Thanks for this input, I really appreciate it!

This was my exact question, and why can't they put 13" specs on a 16" screen so screen size isn't locked behind insane specs and pricing

Is 8gb ram enough as a plex server and daily normal use?
I currently have a 2012 i5 16gb ram and I plan to keep this m2 Mac mini for a long time
